A extended journey circling the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The ship departed without her and went back later that day after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are examining the incident, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator said that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".
